Snow Removal Techniques for Home or Business

12/10/2018

SNOW? WE’RE BUILT TO MOVE IT.

Now that winter’s here, you might be looking out your window right now and calculating the snowfall from last night. Does it look like the predictions were right? Well, whatever it was, you have to remove it. And when you have a Kubota machine, and the proper snow removal attachment, you’ll get the job done in no time. There are numerous Kubota attachments available for snow removal. Let’s take a look at them, and learn what they do.

HERE ARE THE ESSENTIAL APPROACHES TO SNOW REMOVAL.

To get that snow out of your way, you’ll be choosing from three different types of tractor attachments – Blades, Pushers, and Blowers. They’re all effective, but there are some key differences in using them. Your choice comes down to personal preference.

BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, REMEMBER THIS.

What’s hiding beneath that snow? Any rocks? Concrete barriers? The last thing you want to do is hit something and damage your equipment, or even hurt yourself. So, make certain you know something about the area you’re working, and proceed with caution!

BLADES

The first option for snow removal is a plow blade, with front-mounted blades a popular choice for snow removal. Moving snow with a blade is a straightforward process, very effective, and easy to accomplish with your Kubota machine. Plus, plow blades let you clear closer to the ground than with a snow blower. Blades are made in a wide range of sizes and styles, and come with numerous mounting options. In addition to front-mounted blades, sub-frame and rear-mounted options are also available. Best of all, blades perform a variety of work tasks throughout the seasons. Here are Kubota’s TE355 blade specifications:

PUSHERS

A snow pusher is essentially a large box that pushes snow. Sounds pretty simple, right? Because it is. Pushers can move a large amount of snow, typically more than a blade, and they don’t leave the “wind rows” that a blade will. Because of their capacity, pushers are great for big, open areas like parking lots. However, pushers are only built for front-mounting, so you lose some of the flexibility of blades. Let’s take a look at Kubota’s two pushers, the SSP15 and the SSP25:

SSP15 SNOW PUSHERS

The SSP15 pushes snow and other loose materials straight ahead without leaving windrows on the side or damaging the pavement below when using the optional rubber snow blade.

BLOWERS

Many people like a blower for their snow. Snow blowers use an auger to chop up snow and feed it into the impeller, then throwing the chopped-up snow up and out the chute.

Snow blowers can be mounted to a tractor’s front or rear. With a blower, you need to attack the snow before accumulation gets too heavy, to prevent undue strain on the blower attachment. With a front-mounted blower, the bucket and/or loader must be removed prior to attaching blower. Here’s a look at Kubota’s SBL 25:

These snow blowers remove snow from parking lots, farm yards, feedlots, drive-ways, walking paths, and sidewalks in residential and commercial areas. , and
