Setting-up and operating the Kubota BX Series Snow Blower Attachment

1/22/2019

Snow piling up? Let’s move it out of here.

Today, we’re going to explain how to set-up and operate Kubota’s BX Series Snow Blower Attachment for our small tractors. Specifically, we’re talking about our BX2816 50” front snow blower for the BX80 series machines.

Kubota’s snow blower adds seasonal versatility to our small tractor.

Our friends at Messick’s Farm Equipment in Elizabethtown, PA, have provided excellent, in-depth video examples of this installation, which you can see here and here, but we’ll provide an overview first for immediate access.

Let’s start with the tractor. The Kubota BX Series.

Presenting the ultimate in versatility. With the new, smaller Kubota BX80 tractor, you can master your yard, your acreage, even the biggest snowfalls wherever they occur. Providing the strength and versatility of a compact utility tractor, the agile handling of 4WD, and the feel of a garden tractor, you can count on Kubota sub-compacts for incomparable reliability. And you’ll find this smaller machine provides numerous advantages. You can easily maneuver around landscaping, fences and buildings, and the BX80 is easier to store when not in use. If you’re looking for a performance solution that fits your lifestyle, and your property, this is the machine for you.

Now, add a powerful Kubota snow blower attachment, and you’re ready to move some snow.

Our BX2816 snow blower is fantastic for residential use, clearing driveways, sidewalks and small parking lots. The BX2816 performs equally well in commercial applications, where maneuverability due to space limitations is a necessity. It features a full 50” bucket with a 4-point front hitch and quick-connect mid-PTO drive assembly. We also offer a 55-inch model, which is often used on our B series tractors, for larger areas. These two size options provide plenty of flexibility when partnered with our smaller BX tractors.

Attaching the hitch.

The process for attaching the hitch is pretty straightforward. Set the hitch in front of the tractor. (It weighs about 50 pounds, which should be manageable for most of you.) Lift the hitch and set the front J-shaped pieces over the curves and push the hitch down and flat beneath the tractor. Next use the locking rod and slide it through the assembly, using the cotter pin to lock the rod in place. Again, if you’d like to see how it’s done, check out this video.

Ease of operation.

Once you have the BX2816 Blower ready to go, you’ll be impressed with the smoothness of operation. Here’s what Neil from Messick’s say about it:

“I can make all the adjustments on this snow blower from the seat of the tractor and you're going to find that being a very nice option for a cab for instance. These things say the screw coming back the side aren't really compatible with the cab you need hydraulic motors to do those functions and they can be really convenient to operate from the seat of the tractor.”

“If I want to switch to adjusting my spout, I have a button up here on the loader stick to activate the third function. I'm going to push the button and it's going to trigger a diverter that's now going to cause my left and right function to point the spout up and down. You can see I'm doing this in idle, so I don't make a whole lot of noise. If I speed this thing up, I get a lot of really fast action out of these things.”

“You can be very productive if you have a large area to clean, a lot of passes that you need to be back and forth rather than sitting there and cranking the screw to bring the spout back and forth the hydraulic actuator for this can make this a lot more efficient for you and a lot nicer to use.”
